Who We Are
Alternative Learning Institute was initially established to demonstrate that all students can master academic standards if given time, support, and instruction that focuses on meeting their academic needs. To do this, we provide a number of approaches to teaching and learning separate from that offered by mainstream or traditional education.
The secondary school (grades 7-12) is intervention-based, led by highly skilled instructors, and seeks to bridge any learning gaps that a child might have. We emphasize having small class sizes with the average student-to-teacher ratio being 6:1. The school curriculum is developed around The Bahamas’ Ministry of Education’s curricula while adopting technology standards provided by the Minnesota School System in the United States of America by way of using the StudyIsland online intervention program. At Alternative Learning Institute, our overarching aim is to work collaboratively with parents and the local community to ensure a positive, respectful, and stimulating environment, which fosters every child towards reaching their full potential. We strive to develop the whole child and encourage our students to become confident, self-thinking leaders, responsible citizens, successful learners, and effective contributors to society.
Alternative Learning Institute is registered with the National Accreditation and Equivalency Council of The Bahamas (NAECOB).
